I met a Scot once who wanted to talk about the differences between UK and Candadian English. One of the things he stated was that, “We say ‘rooves’, but you say ‘roofs’.” I was aghast: we certainly do not say roofs….elfs…shelfs…that is ridiculous! But since then, I have seen it pop up then now and again…more in American writing, but some Canadian, too. I didn’t know it was a thing at all.
